The Season’s Hot New Mystery Series
As with most anime, “Beautiful Bones – Sakurako’s Investigation” started out as manga. It was and is a mystery novel series written by Shiori Ōta, with illustrations by Tetsuo. The manga started publishing in 2013, and the first episode of the anime adaptation aired on October 7th, 2015.
The main male lead is Shotaro Tatewaki, and the story starts being told through his viewpoint. He is a fairly normal High School student, but recently he met the beautiful and brilliant Sakurako Kujo.
Sakurako Kujo is the main female lead, and she is an intelligent young woman who works as an osteologist (she puts bones together for a living), and really loves beautiful bones – just see the image above for proof. Her uncle is also a prominent forensic scientist. The combination of her knowledge of bones, her training from her uncle, and her natural wit and intelligence make her a formidable force in detective work, which she keeps getting mixed up in. However, she’s a bit antisocial and not very personable, with a personality that leans toward the “eccentric genius” type (though it should be noted that she has a very calm and graceful demeanor). As such Shotaro Tatewaki ends up playing the “Watson” to her “Sherlock Holmes,” so to speak.
The pacing of the first episodes is very calm and relaxing for the most part, and the series does a good job of setting a mood and atmosphere. It’s not big on fast-paced action sequences, but right from the beginning it impresses people with how beautiful it can be. Here’s a few shots to demonstrate.
The show has garnered a good number of fans and positive reviews so far, and we can only hope it continues to be enjoyed from here on out.
Whatever kind of show you’re into, we hope you’re enjoying the current season of anime. Have a nice day!
