Code Geass, Titans, and a Magical Girl?

All-Star Team of Artists Release First Promotional VIDEO for Spring 2016 Anime

The first promotional video for “Koutetsujou no Kabaneri” has been released.  In it, humanity is threatened by horrifying large humanoid creatures, and humans hide themselves in fortresses to survive.  The predominant style seems to be steampunk-style technology and weapons, but is that a magical girl we spy around 27 seconds into the trailer?

Will this new anime be original and great, or will it simply be playing off of Attack on Titan‘s popularity?  We’ll have to wait and see, but this show has a lot of things going for it:

  • The story is being written by Code Geass creator Ichiro Okouchi.
  • The anime is being directed by the man who directed Death Note and Attack on Titan, Tetsuro Araki.
  • The acclaimed Hiroyuki Sawano is in charge of the music.
