Film About School Idols Wins First Place at Box Office

Just How Well Did the “Love Live!” Film Do?

So, anyone who’s been paying attention knows by now that the Love Live! series has quite the fanbase.  As could be probably expected, that has translated into good things for the franchise’s movie, currently showing in theaters across Japan.

That doesn’t mean it will stay only in Japan, though!  Depending on where you live, the Love Live! movie may be showing in select theaters in your country (it will be premiering in North America on September 12th).  You’d probably have to travel a ways, however, so most of those interested will have to wait until they can access the movie another way.

In any case, Love Live! topped the Japanese Box office, so this could be quite the cause for celebration for fans (not to mention the show staff).  Find the details below the break!

The website of the media trade paper Bunka Tsūshin is reporting on Thursday that Love Live! The School Idol Movie has grossed a box-office total of more than 1.9 billion yen (about US$15.3 million) after 38 days at the box office.

The film topped the Japanese box office for tickets sold for its first three weeks in theaters.  As of 30 days since its opening, the film had earned 1.65 billion yen (about US$13.4 million).
