Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why
A pigeon plush doll (or “plushie”) doesn’t sound so crazy, really. While some people consider them to be pests, a lot of people don’t mind pigeons, or are even fond of them, and the feeding of pigeons is a relatively common activity in areas that have them. Plus, plushies are cuddly and adorable.
What makes these unique is that they are based off of Hatoful Boyfriend. For those of you who don’t already know what that is, it’s a…pigeon dating sim.
We almost wish we were kidding, but then the world would be a little less crazy. And here at Anime Command Center, we like crazy. Besides, the game actually received quite a positive reception. Again, we’re not kidding.
It’s a dating sim where the main character is a human girl attending a school with a bunch of sapient pigeons, and who grows to find love amongst her avian acquaintances. The game was praised for its characterization and depth.
And now, a Kickstarter based on the franchise was an overwhelming success. So, congratulations, everyone. These are a thing.

A recent Kickstarter campaign to create official plushies based on the feathery characters from the satirical pigeon-dating sim game Hatoful Boyfriend has reached its goal in spades. TheHatoful Boyfriend Official Plush Project has received over $95,000 from more than 1,500 backers in preliminary funding, far exceeding its initial goal of $25,000.
While the original goal was to create plushies based on Ryouta, Okosan and Shuu (pictured above), the over-funding has met the stretch goal funding that will see the creation of plushies for Nageki, Anghel, Sakuya, Yuuya and Kazuaki.
The minimum pledge for one plush is $16, with backers being able to increase their pledge by $12 to receive an additional bird.
The Kickstarter period ends on December 6, with the plushies to be shipped some time in May 2016.
