Iconic Character To Receive Her Last Manga Volume Soon
The world recently received some bittersweet news about the popular and iconic Squid Girl manga. (It’s not a porn series. We promise.) For those who don’t know, it’s a comedy manga that follows a squid girl who starts by vowing to invade and attack mankind as revenge for its pollution of the ocean, but winds up working as a waitress instead.
Like many popular characters, she has shown up on A LOT of merchandise, and it’s likely that she will be remembered fondly for a long time to come, but it seems that her manga run is officially coming to a close.
We’re grateful to Masahiro Anbe for his creation and wish him the best in the future. Read the details below the break!
Manga creator Masahiro Anbe revealed in his 21st Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl) manga volume on Friday that the manga’s 22nd volume will be the last.
Anbe launched the manga in Akita Shoten‘s Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine in 2007. The manga received two 12-episode television anime series adaptations. The first season premiered in 2010, while the second season premiered in 2011. Crunchyroll streamed both television anime as they aired in Japan under the title Squid Girl, and also streamed two original video DVDs. Media Blasters licensed both seasons, and it released the first season on DVD in 2011, and in a complete Blu-ray Disc collection in 2012.
