Tokyo Airport Developing New Megaphone Technology

Could You Be Using This Invention In The Future?

Have you ever had trouble finding someone or being found at an airport?  Have you had trouble calling for someone over the general rumble of the crowd, or seen airport staff struggling to make an announcement?

Well, Tokyo’s Narita International Airport will soon be testing a new invention that hopes to alleviate certain such troubles at the airport.  This testing is an important part of the development process, of course, and we don’t know what the final fate of this new megaphone will be just yet.

So, what exactly is so special about this megaphone that makes it so different from regular megaphones?  Read the details after the break!

Tokyo’s Narita International Airport announced that it will test a megaphone that repeats announcements at a higher volume, then translates them into three foreign languages: English, Chinese and Korean. Called the Megaphoneyaku (yaku means “translation”), its translation ability is roughly equal to that of a smartphone app, so its ability to handle airport-specific terminology is uncertain.
